DIY Church to Home Conversion

Square

Some places are so unique you have to share them. That is exactly how I feel about my friend Becky’s church to home conversion. This quirky one of a kind church home is a DIYers playground. Let’s check out the transformation and the fun projects that give this home loads of personality.

Before

First, let’s take a look at the before. To fully appreciate the transition, we need to see where this church to house conversion started.

The Transformation

Entrance and Living Room

Church to House Convertion

I know that Becky and her husband did a lot of critical thinking during this huge undertaking. Ultimately they decided to build this new entrance on the side of the home.

The magic really begins when you step inside. Much of the home’s woodwork and countertops were reclaimed from the old church pews left behind. Many of the church items were reused throughout the home giving a creative nod to the home’s past.

Old mixed with new gives this entry a fun and welcoming personality.

No wasted space in this entry. Check out this cute art nook tucked away under the stairs.

The old church furniture gets to live a new life.

In true DIY queen fashion, Becky repurposed this old organ into an electric fireplace. How unique!

The Loft

The loft continues the open feel and creates a space for my friend’s teenage son to call his own.

Once again the magic is in the details. Reclaiming the church pews to fashion this staircase makes it seem like it has lived here forever.

How happy would you be if this window was in your bedroom?

Kitchen and Dining

It’s only fitting that the heart of the home would be the first thing you see when you walk through the door. Becky didn’t shy away from color in the kitchen which really marries the new kitchen with the original stained glass windows.

This giant yarn ball was a thrifted find and I love it. Again, mixing formal with fun keeps this kitchen comfortable.

The Bird Bathroom and Study

Now, you couldn’t expect someone as creative as Becky to have a plain powder room. First, guests can be captivated by this unique DIY birdcage light fixture.

And if the bird light wasn’t enough, you can admire the reclaimed jukebox vanity and thrifted mirror.

Neighboring to the magical bird bathroom is the office where historical art gives the space more of a studious vibe.

The Basement

Finally, we’ve made our way into the basement. Here you will find a second kitchen (see more in the video tour), larger dining area and family room.

This old laundry bin enjoys a simpler life acting as an entertainment center under the TV. Why not!

Lastly, it wouldn’t be Becky’s home with a new bathroom vanity. Even the basement bathroom is one of a kind with this repurposed desk and reclaimed sink.

Let’s all give my friends a standing ovation for all the work they did during this DIY church to home conversion. This project was no small undertaking and they seamlessly transitioned this church into a cozy place to live without overlooking any details.
