DIY Pendant Light Side Table

Square

For this project I used these cord lights from Amazon.

My husband can attest to the fact that he often comes home to find surprise new pieces of DIY furniture around our house. These pendant light side tables are one such project. Do you ever find yourself obsessing about an idea that has popped into your head? I do All The Time! That is probably why I was able to whip these puppies up in less than an hour and I think you will enjoy this project too.

To begin I hit up our scrap wood pile and found a 2×8 piece of wood that inspired me. I think that 1 by wood would work well for this project too. I used our Skill saw to cut one long piece at 30 inches and one short piece at 9.5 inches. Then I attached the shorter piece to the longer piece using 3 inch wood screws.

Next I took a 1″x2.5″ piece of galvanized pipe and attached a mounting bracket and end cap. Then I used some black screws to attach this to the top center of my project.

After attaching the pipe piece, I flipped the project over. Then I set my Skill saw blade to 1/4inch and made three cuts as close together as I could to form a ditch. You can use a screw driver to clean all the scrap wood pieces out of the ditch. This ditch will accommodate the light cord once the project is mounted so that the wood can sit flush against the wall.

My chubby fingered helper demonstrates how the cord will fit in the ditch that was cut with the Skill saw. I simply wrapped my pendant light cord around my galvanized pipe and fed the excess through the ditch.

Once my light cord was in place I mounted my pendant light to my wall by screwing two three inch screws into the stud. I was sure to hit the stud since I imagined these side tables would look like the perfect perch to my kids. After the project was secure I added my bulbs, plugged in the cords and we have been enjoying them ever since!
