Spice Up That Routine
My sister Heidi is the one who first introduced me to the idea of adding a little spice to my coffee grounds. She started with about a pinch of cloves. If you are leery of the spice idea, start with one you love, and experiment from there. Being a spice lover, I jumped right into spice land with a full blown spiced coffee drink.
My flavors of choice are inspired by pumpkin pie. Of course we all know that there is a pumpkin pie spice craze out there, but this spiced coffee drink embraces more of the aromatic elements, and also wont cost you five bucks a cup.
Simplicity is key when it comes to a good morning cup of Joe, and that’s why this spiced coffee drink is perfect. You just add in the spices and brew as you always do. I prefer to use my French press or my Chemex pour over. You may have some residual spice flavor sticking around for a bit in a drip coffee machine, so if you’re going to try this spiced coffee drink, you may want to make sure you know how to flush out your machine.
Is That Fall I Smell
As I mentioned above, this spiced coffee drink is delightfully aromatic. So aromatic in fact, that the neighbors couldn’t help but peep as I was brewing mine up. Now my neighbor isn’t a coffee drinker, so thankfully I didn’t have to share.
The Perfect Topping
In the few minutes while your spiced coffee drink is brewing, you can whip up this maple cream. While this spiced coffee is still amazing on it’s own, I like to add just a touch of sweetness. Black coffee drinkers shield your eyes.
Whip your maple cream into stiff peaks either by hand, if you’re like me and welcome a challenge, or with a hand or stand mixer. I prefer to make a larger batch to have stashed away in the fridge for future spiced coffee drinks.
If you prefer to skip the whipping process, fear not, you can still get in on this Maple goodness. Substitute half and half or your favorite nut milk for the cream, and add the maple syrup as usual. Be mindful that if your nut milk is sweetened, you may want to cut back on the added syrup.
Fill Your Cup With Cozy
Now it’s time for your two, spiced coffee drink creations to finally join together into one cozy Fall cup of perfection. You might even have the impulse, as I did, to consume your spiced coffee drink outside on your porch while smiling at your collection of pumpkins. Again, inciting curiosity from those peeping neighbors.
Remember that we are now waving goodbye to swim suite season, so don’t bother holding back on that maple cream. You may even be inspired to go decorate for Fall. Check out some Fall decor inspiration HERE!
